Disposition

I think that some dispositions can be taught but I think some of these dispositions are learned and observed. A disposition like respect, collaborativeness and reflectiveness can be taught. I think they can be taught because there are different way to reflect on things and you can be shown the different ways. Collaborativeness can be worked on. There are also different ways you can be shown different ways to show respect. I think that dispositions like inventiveness, authenticity, passion and compassion are more learned or observed. I don't think I would like this but I would hold a workshop on enhancing dispositions.

Resilience

Well I think college is a great way to prepare teachers for the stresses related to the teaching. I also think that doing student teaching before you graduate helps. It shows you how much you actually have to do when you are a teacher and what you have to deal with. I think that a way you can prevent teachers from changing their professions by paying them more and acknowledging how much teachers have to do. I know that part of the reason that my mom isn't a fan of her job is because she does so much as a teacher and as a person that students can come to but the administration doesn't see what she does all of the time. I know my mom get frustrated with that and so would I if I were her. It isn't fair not to get the recognition for the work that you do.

Humility

I have been wrong plenty of times in my life. Usually it is when I think I am right and I think I can prove it but then I can't. I think the balance would be that admit what you know (that's where the confidence comes into play) and then admitting that you don't know everything and that you are wrong sometimes (that's where genuine humility comes in). There are times when teachers will have to admit that they are wrong and can't always know everything.

Collaborativeness

I think for a highly effective team or group, they have to be able to communicate and be able to have everyone imput their own ideas. I think that the difference between collaboration and group work or cooperative learning is that with collaboration people are coming together to with different ideas rather than just one. Like in group work or cooperative learning. With group work and cooperative learning, it is all about coming together with one idea or concept.

Efficacy

I think that every teacher has to be confident and have persistence. Other wise students will not listen to their teacher if they do not have confidence in themselves or what they are teaching. Teachers that have persistence will last longer in a classroom and won't have students walk all over them. I've had teachers that weren't persistence and would tell students what to do and what not to do. And then she would never follow through on her rules. So students would walk all over her. I think that these attributes are best developed through years of teaching. You learn what works and what does not work and what they need to work on in their classroom.

Inventiveness

I'm not sure if there is a way that we can encourage, teach and reward creativity and imagination in our schools today. I feel like that is something that comes to you naturally and you can't really teach something like that. But I do think that creativity in the 21st Century is a great skill. It sets you apart from other teachers in multiple ways like how you teach the students and how the students get information from the lesson. With creativity used by teachers, students can sometimes understand the lessons better.

Reflectiveness

I think that it is so hard for both teachers and students to reflect because reflecting can criticize their work that they had done and it can show them what they did wrong. I think that some people consider reflection to be the teaching process because it can show teachers what they did right or wrong in the lesson. Also, they reflect on if the students actually learned the lesson. I think you reflect most effectively before and after a lesson. When you reflect before the lesson, you know what you are going to do and say. After the lesson, you can reflect on how the lesson went and what the students learned.
